Brown crab

Edible or brown crab of the northeast Atlantic, from Norway to North Africa. Oval reddish-brown carapace with a crimped 'pie crust' edge and black-tipped claws, reaching 25cm across and 3kg. Nocturnal bottom-dweller on coarse ground, mud and sand down to about 100m, feeding on molluscs and smaller crustaceans.
