Atlantic horse mackerel (common scad), a jack of the family Carangidae. Slender, laterally compressed body with a large head, two dorsal fins, and a distinctive curved row of bony scutes along the flank; dark blue above with silvery sides and a dark spot on the gill cover. A migratory, shoaling, benthopelagic fish of the eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black Sea, usually over sandy bottoms at 100-200 m; commonly ~25 cm, max ~60 cm.
