Arctic char, a cold-water salmonid (family Salmonidae) and the world's northernmost freshwater fish; streamlined body with small scales, light spots and a reddish-orange belly in spawning fish. Inhabits cold seas and deep boreal/alpine lakes, including landlocked relict populations such as the critically endangered, legally protected Saimaa population in Finland
