Trachurus mediterraneus
Mediterranean horse mackerel, a jack of the family Carangidae with an elongated, compressed body, dusky blue-grey above, silvery-white below, and a yellow caudal fin. Distinguished from T. trachurus by a preference for shallower water and denser schooling, and is the more commonly caught horse mackerel in the Mediterranean. Benthopelagic at 5-250 m, ranging the eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean, Aegean, Sea of Marmara and Black Sea; commonly ~30 cm, max ~60 cm.
